The Nude Cruise

What an opportunity to finally get a chance to join the world famous Bare Necessities Nude Cruise! After 2 years of Covid lock down, we were ready to travel again, and this epic vacation did not disappoint!

Bare Necessities is an American company that charters boats. BIG BOATS. In this case they managed to borrow (charter) the Carnival Pride for a 2 week nude cruise throughout the Western Caribbean! Thanks to our good friend Steve, we were asked to help staff the cruise, in particular the Disco, which involved a lot of fun dancing at night, and some delicious pizza served 24/7, even at 2am! But, we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

In case you haven’t ever been on a cruise before (Sam had never been), the first thing that stands out is the sheer size of the vessel. It feels big…very big. Then, within the wide walls of this ship, are contained what feels like endless options of entertainment. There’s always something going on, from Broadway performances to Karaoke, to Disco, swimming pools, hot tubs, costume parties, exercise classes, bingo, sunbathing, and that’s just on the boat! On average, every day or two, you pull into an entirely new country where you can disembark and have an adventure. We love to travel, so that was something we had been craving after a long Covid quarantine. It should also be mentioned that the food is PLENTIFUL, and delicious. Really fancy dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then all day buffets as an alternative or in between option, including italian, chinese, mexican, American grill, salads, deserts, juices, etc. Amazing. Decadent.

The ports of call included Panama, Columbia, Curacao, Bon Aire, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Bahamas. There really are TOO many photos to share, so we’ll just share some highlights. Our favorite experiences included fun times with friends, exploring different countries, skinny dipping on reefs and enjoying some wonderfully warm weather for a February. Let it be known that you CAN BE NAKED in the middle of winter, if you travel to the tropics. Another highlight was dressing up for regular costume themed parties hosted by Bare Necessities, the best clothing optional costume party you’ve ever been to!

Some of our favorite moments were while exploring the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean. Underwater photography has been one of Sam’s passions for many years. So, the opportunity to shoot underwater, and when possible NUDE underwater photos on a reef and even a shipwreck was an epic opportunity that we definitely took advantage of. It left us wanting more of these incredibly unique experiences and looking forward to next year’s Nude Cruise.

We felt lucky to be teamed up with a great group of friends on the Disco Crew! Stuck on a boat with people you love for 2 weeks is a real gift of time. We loved staying up late in the disco and helping to keep things safe while having fun with old friends and new. And they were our breakfast and dinner friends, and our adventure mates on the ports of call. We were truly a band of merry men and women, and made some fun memories together!

While we were on the cruise we met so many Bare Necessities enthusiasts who had been 4, 6, even 10+ times on “The Big Nude Boat”. Now we understand why….what a superbly fun experience! But a word of warning, it is highly addictive, so if you decide to come once, just remember you’ll probably be coming back!
