Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico

Once in a while we find ourselves with an unexpected kid-free, work-free, busy-free long weekend. So on this particular occasion, we made some last minute plans to fly to Tulum, Mexico. But would there be any good places to be naked in Tulum?

We found out that the “Art with Me Tulum” music, art and environmental festival was going on over the weekend we were free (this was in April 2019), with Michael Franti headlining. Sounds perfect! So we hopped on Google and were lucky to find a review by Naked Wanderings, who had positive things to say about Intima Resort. The name was a little questionable, but the review reassured us that it was not a “lifestyle” resort (even though no kids are/were allowed).

Intima is a few blocks off of the main strip in Tulum, but just a heads up, that Mexico is not the USA, so it’s down a dirt road, and without street signs, or lights. Challenging when arriving at night. They have a guard who watches the cars and is very informative about local spots.

The resort itself is contained within a 4 sided compound, and it was absolutely beautiful! First of all, lush tropical landscaping, and each ground floor room has a soaking pool, that is connected to a lazy river network, and flows into the main central pool, which has a swim up bar and access to the hot tub. The whole ambiance was really unique and a dreamy naturist escape.

The rooms are beautiful, modern, clean. Some are larger than others. As mentioned, the advantage of a ground level room is the cool pool access. The advantage of upper level rooms is that each one has a private hot tub and balcony views of the resort and surrounding areas.

In case you haven’t noticed, we enjoy photography. It’s a hobby that we get to do together, which is fun for us and helps us to share our adventures with you. Sometimes our goal is to capture the essence of a naturist location, or maybe the vibe of how naturism feels in different parts of the world. Other times we enjoy the opportunity to create more artistic images.

We also found that our dipping pool was a perfect spot for doing some yoga….technically speaking. More of a balancing act, but it was fun!

We loved out time at the resort, but also had a great time at the festival and exploring more of the many sights that Tulum has to offer.

“Art with Me” was a fantastic experience, even though it wasn’t clothing optional ;) Aleah is a big fan of Michael Franti, who usually plays for music festivals and large auditoriums. But, this was a really small intimate concert, with only about 100 people in the crowd. More than once he came off the stage and walked around in the crowd. We got to dance with him, sing on the mic, and participate in group-hug-sing-a-longs all beachfront at sunset. What could be better?

If you ever find yourself in Tulum, first of all, consider staying at Intima. But, be sure not to skip the Tulum Ruins. Easily accessible by car, and be sure to arrive early to beat the crowds, that’s what we did and it was incredible to have this ancient spot mostly all to ourselves. Mexico has a rich and beautiful history! Unfortunately, this particular beach was not clothing optional.

Intima is within walking distance of the main road through Tulum, where you can find a variety of shopping and restaurants. We found a delicious burrito spot!

We had intentions of returning to Intima more regularly, and to bring friends, since it’s only about a 2 hour flight into Cancun then a 1 hour drive from Cancun to Tulum. But, then Covid hit and travel and life (as you know) became a little different for a while.

We’re looking forward to a return trip soon and if you decide to go we hope that you have as much fun as we did!
