A Naturist Girl

A Naturist Girl

I am a naturist girl,,, partly because I was born into a naturist family,,, yes. But it’s definitely MY choice now,,, it’s the way I’m most comfortable and it makes me happy…

Sooo why talk about it? Blog about it? Instagram and social media? Because,,, I believe a lot of people have a lot of misconceptions about what Naturism/Nudism really is. I’m hoping that in my own small way I can add some clarity and show the true beauty of the naturist way of life… In Europe saying that you’re going on a nature’s family vacation is 100% normal. Could we ever become this evolved in America?

The question is, will anybody even be interested? Will anybody want to know the philosophy and learn more about this way of life? Do people even care about our stories, or do they just want to see pictures and photos that flash by on their Instagram feed…? Well, I’m not sure,,, but I guess I’m going to find out!

Let’s talk about beating suits… Personal opinion here, I find bathing suits to be super uncomfortable. Playing in the ocean in a bikini, if you hold on to your top and it will probably be wedgy city, there’s no winning. Then after you get out of the water and you’re wet, and it just feels gross. It’s harder to put on sunscreen evenly, I always miss spots or my bathing suit shifts and get sunburn lines. Also it’s fairly unhealthy to stay in wet clothes,,, especially for girls. Air drying will always be my preference,,, at the beach and at home…

Skinny-dipping is one of those things that is semi-accepted in society at this point. Most people will admit they have skinny dipped before, sometimes in high school or college. Most people will also admit there was a touch of alcohol involved in overcoming that fear; liquid courage… I don’t think most people are afraid to actually be naked, I think they are afraid how other people will react to seeing them naked. It is a ‘body shame’ issue… Everyone compares themselves to the images of supermodels and sports illustrated models that we are bombarded with everywhere we turn.

I hope one day people can accept that all bodies are different and all bodies are beautiful. Unique is special,,, cookie cutter is boring… Our bodies are constantly changing, changing as we get older, changing from morning till night and changing as we eat meals. Changing throughout the month for females. Changing from pregnancy and childbirth. Change is normal,,, bloating and lines and wrinkles…all normal. These are things everyone has. NO ONE IS PERFECT… There is literally no such thing as “perfect”. The sooner we realize that the sooner we start to feel better about ourselves and stop comparing ourselves to airbrushed photographs of ectomorphic models.

Kids are not self-conscious. As children we are happy and carefree and we don’t compare ourselves to others. We don’t care if our friend is a boy or a girl or a different color or thinner or bigger or stronger or weaker than we are. The things we care about are…do they like me? Are they nice to me? Will they still be my best friend tomorrow?

We are taught to grow up,,, to wear shoes and stop climbing trees. We are taught the concept of modesty and shame. Taught what the “ideal perfect body” is supposed to look like. Imagine a world where we could go back to the innocent, carefree days of childhood…a time without all the self doubt and fad diets.

Don’t get me wrong, eating healthy is super important… I for one do not love the gym. OK, I don’t even like the gym. I do love adventures, going hiking, swimming, paddle boarding, long walks on the beach, yoga…. But life is busy and I definitely don’t get to do these things every day.

Thank goodness for my childhood and the fact that my “comfort food” is basically salads, beans and rice, vegetables, tofu and fruit salad… I grew up vegetarian and eat a basically vegetarian diet now. But I love the occasional seafood… My philosophy is simple,,, anything is OK in moderation. I basically drink water,,, but love the occasional ice tea, or chai tea latte when it’s cold.

I am naked far less in winter. I do not like the cold. Being naked is not a requirement, it is for comfort, so when it’s too cold and I am uncomfortable, I get dressed… People ask me a lot if I am literally naked all the time? When people come to my house do they have to deal with the fact that I am always naked? No, and no. That would be extremely impractical and disrespectful to other people’s comfort levels. I want my home to always be welcoming and comfortable for anyone I invite there…

When my nudist friends come over they know they are more than welcome to “get comfortable”. But when my husband‘s parents are over that would be offensive, so obviously being dressed is the right call… Naturism/Nudism is a part of life,,, but, not every part of life. I still go out in the world dressed just like anyone else. I go grocery shopping, drive my kids to school and chaperone field trips. I am literally just a regular person,,, a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mom, friend, cousin etc. The only possible difference is that maybe my adventure preference is less clothed than most?

If you have questions, reach out and ask a Naturist... We are always happy to share our opinions and experiences… And who knows, if you try,,, it might just change your life…!
